Not to hot not to cold , just right

The day that is. What a day got lots done moved plants, hubby got the lawns cut and weedwacked. And I got a few of the beds weeded as well. So quite all I heard was the sound of a woodpecker off in the forest. Great sound.

Yesterday was not bad. We had the Northern Adventure that is a BC Ferry go by,they always toot the horn and we head out and wave just like the animals in the zoo. After it went by we heard and terrible noise and thought one of our lovely sealions was hit. It turned out to be a seal. She/he was being pushed against the rocks on our shore line by the wake, that is some wake it puts off. First time we have seen a seal here so now will be on the look out for him/her.

Our Newts are called Roughnecks and soooo glad we had gloves seems they have poison and not good for ones health. If I can ever get a photo will be happy to put it on line here. It is looking like a nice night here as well and they say we could have another good day tomorrow as well.. if that is the case off to move a few more of the bushes that are not doing well where they are. And who knows later this week maybe company ..

Off to make the evening meal here. Take care and have a good one from the Bluff.

oops

Well we have newts not salamanders. But at least we know now. And they are poison , you ask how well we have to wear gloves to handly then.

Also I have been neglect in writing but then we have been busy here with just the two of us. Had our visitors and then the weather got great so that meant gardens, lawns and lots of other stuff as well. So on days like that one is to tired to come and type. I know, I know these should be daily... yet there are days when there is not much happening here. So really nothing to write about.

Today has been one of those diamond days on the water..warm and nice ocean breeze. The sky is so lovely and clear and hope it will last a few days. The couple of rain showers had made the grass grow and the plants get nice and colourful.

The other night was so calm the only thing making a sound was the flapping of the Canadian flag in the night air. Moon was about 1/2 and causing its beams to dance off the water. (again a romantic time) Who knew solace was so enveloping.

Will have to get get at the grocery order and make sure I have enough goodies and food for eating and snacking. I will be looking to head out in Aug for a few weeks.
Ah weather time so off I go.. we do them every three hours. So I shall bid you a fond evening from the Bluff.

The Waiting Game

Well yesterday was a nice day we got and unexpected chopper so mail and goodies. Along with a couple of boaters. Now that is a good day even if the sun was not out.

Today is the waiting game for the expected chopper. And wondering if there will more stuff coming or just a visit. And it is hard do decide if I will serve lunch or will they even be here for lunch. Maybe just in time for coffee and dessert. Ah life out here.

Nice to have the sun and sounds like we could have it for a few days longer Hurray,, this means that the seeds I planted might have a chance and the ones that are here can finally bloom

Our hummingbird is back on the dish. Over looking his area and fending off other ones. Well they like to keep the juice for them seems they do not like to share those hummingbirds. Guess their parents never taught them.

The timer is going for the fresh buns.. so better run. Hope everyone will have a great day from where ever you are.. later from the Bluff

So another nice day

I must say what have we done to deserve this two days of sun. It has been great was able to get some of the seeds planted for the gardens now that the golden crown sparrows are gone. As well some weeding done and the daff's needed to be cut back to allow for the other plants to come through. Have even put in some of those shake and bake seeds. Those are the ones that come in a can and you shake them out. These are the wildflower ones and should come up every year. Hoping that they will help keep the weeds out of those hard to reach rock garden places.

And of course we where able to get the moss back around the man made pond for the Salamanders. I hope that this will keep them as they are great in keeping the bugs down around the back yard. It is also nice to think that we have them as I had never seem them before last yr. Went out this morning looking for them but I guess they have managed to find a place even with out the moss to find a place to hide. If luck is with me will try and get a photo of them .

As it is getting on to weather time I guess I should let this end for today. Only two more weathers for today. And here is hoping we see a chopper and mail this wk as we have heard that the office people are still coming..Mail.. hurray . Nice evening from the Bluff.

What a Day!!

Well what a day it has been .. not just the sun but we finally decided to clean our pond out back. What a job it turned out to be. Last year we found salamanders as we had used a wet dry vac to take the water and the dirt out of the bottom of the man made pond. So over all we saved about 4 of them

Well this yr we started at noon and at 4 pm finally stopped. The reason is that we saved about 40 small baby salamanders and 6 large ones. That was a job to go through the dirt and rotting leaves at the bottom. Yet over all very rewarding to have saved that many. One wonders though if the pond should be cleaned maybe they like it dirty,, and who knows what type they are. So off we went in search of an old friend who is into salamanders to see if he could assist. One can only hope that he can. As we do not want to kill the ones we have and would like to add to the family of them.

So over all it was a good day here at the Bluff now if we just get a chopper this week that will make it even better..

Fishing Camps

Today and yesterday we had tugs taking the fishing camps up to the Charlotte's that is the Queen Charlotte Islands. There are quite a few of them up there and heard that the salmon fishing is great. Me not a fisherperson so would not know for sure.
Most of them are the camps they tow are very lovely looking.

Must have been a high tide as we have what looks like the saragaso sea out here with all the junk in it. The other day we noticed a shovel floating by and a pail along with a fishing net. Wish it was good stuff like a nice boat, a new car on floats, but that is only wishful thinking...(smile)

Tomorrow is the long week waiting for the guys from Victoria. For me the only good thing is I hope they come out of Rupert and bring my mail and goodies. And of course that the weather holds day two now. Have the duvets hung over the balcony oops sorry we have to call it a work deck. But it is a balcony. At least that is how the world sees it as it passes. Just learned today that there are not deliveries by CCG ship as they are both in dry dock. Thank heavens they are no longer delivering groceries that way any longer or the West Coast of Vancouver could starve..

Well off to finish the laundry and move a few plants. Hum also have to see about my holidays as well... off for a couple of months if all goes well this fall. Neat we just had a float plane headed into Klemtu. Well bye from now here at the Bluff.. Feel free to ask questions if I have not all ready told you what you would like to know.. Sunny day from the Bluff

24 hours makes a difference

Sun, blue sky and only the sound of water coming down our rock sides, along with the odd bird call. And the sea lions splashing about.

Lovely sheepie clouds as the kids call them about and the water looking like a mirror. What a great day!! So for a long wknd looks like we might have one day of good weather.

Next week is the one of a chopper coming. Hurray mail, and goodies. Just no food supplies they do not come until June 7th. So a long wait for this we can eat as goodies. Like ice cream, fresh fruit, salads, and then the other great snacks most take for granted.

Well off to cut back the dying flowers and pick the leaves that are turning black off the plants. Also have learned that if I spray hot sauce and water on my plants it will keep the Yellow crest sparrow away from them. Hurray finally a way to rid the station of the few remaining ones. As they eat all the green in site that is new and young along with any planted seeds.. Makes growing things a bit difficult for sure. Well all from the Bluff have a good long weekend. Later

Another day in the life

This morning is much like yesterday. Showers about and then blue sky. At the moment we have the a layer of low cloud with the mountain tops showing above. They are what we call cliff clouds. As they hang on the mountain side for awhile.

Lots of small pleasure boats along with the fishing ones heading to Alaska. This is such great time of year. Well from now until the rainy season again in the fall. All the wildlife seems to come alive as well the eagles are noisey , sea lions playing and the dolphins along with the small hummingbirds are out and about. Each morning as I sit here in my wee office I see a hummingbird sitting on the horn of our Sat dish. Being so small I would think for a rest it is a good vantage point. Have noticed that even as they are sitting the wings are still moving just a bit slower. So makes one wonder if that saying that if they stop moving their wings they will die or something like that.

Wonder if we might see a chopper today. Would be nice to get mail and a few packages as well. But then this is a long wknd so my guess is that they will not be up and flying if anything most will have started the long wknd early and there will be someone on standby. Oh well such is life on the lights. One can only hope that sun will come but not looking good for us yet things have been known to change on a dime weather wise along the coast. Off to wave at another passing boat have a good long wknd for here at the Bluff.

One out of four

It had to happen rain overnight. Yet we had 4 days of sun and joy. Not all the jobs got done like the lawns but one bad day in 4 is great!! Yesterday we had a lovley ship hanging out the front of our place. As there is free wireless internet here and they could not believe it. Wireless out here in the middle of the passage and free so all their guests got to get email and stuff.. It was called the Legacy lovly cruise ship that you hire for how ever long a trip you would like

It was warm and sunny and you could hear the eagles and sea lions playing. These are the days that everyone reads about and make living out here so lovely. Today is a day for inside work so I gues that I should see about that not that it is as fun as outside.. oh well but at least summer is on its way and here's hoping to many more of the warm, sunny and romantic days here on the Bluff. Last night as I sat here alone hubby and dogs in bed windows open there was only the sound of a small bird singing.. it was lovely much like an evening we had in Europe with the men and those long horns playing one evening and the sound hitting the mountains so lovely and peaceful. Well off to do my laundry and stuff here at the Bluff have a great day from where ever you are..

So .... this is romantic

Today is our third day of sun and heat! With just hubby and I here and the dogs it is so lovely. There is even snow on the mountain tops across the channel and the waterfall is still roaring.

Great day to get out and work on the yards and the gardens. This year our neighbour injured herself and now on a lovely long holiday. So the gardens will not be as lovely as they have been in past years. I am trying to keep them up and pulling what I know is weeds and leaving what I am not sure of.

The sealions are back and really enjoying the sun dancing on the water and causing what looks like diamonds dancing on the tops of the ripped ocean. This week no choppers but looks like next week we will have someone coming to visit so this could mean mail and packages..Hurray!!!!!!!!

This means the yearly check on the station and of course the houses. So one must clean and I might even bake a few donunts or cakes. Not sure yet will depend on alot of things.. mainly my mood. Well shall not linger here any longer as it is just to nice to hang in the house. Tonight one can hope that the sky will be clear and lovely .. That is all from the Bluff today.. have a good one

Odd my life that is

I was thinking the other day that my life has been an odd one. Lived across Canada , in Europe and now on a lighthouse.

This thought came over me as I was thinking that if my friends and family could see me now using the derrick and slinging the boat into the water here or even told anyone that I could use power stuff they would never belive it. Me the girl who had to have everything matchie matchie even down to my shoes and makeup. The girl who would have never been seen in jeans and no make up now lives like that on the lights. Goes to show how we change of the years. I even find now that when I do get into normal life I do dress up and wear some makeup but nothing like I used to. What is the saying less is more.

Out here I have even learned to drive a tractor, use power tools, and empty composting toliets and so much more of stuff that one does when there is no one else to do it. This I feel has not made me less of a person just one that now has as my Father in Law used to say just enough to be dangerous. As well all of this has added to my story telling as well about life on lights.

Well looks like it could be a nice day here again so had better think of getting a few things done in the gardens.. To all Mothers out there have a great Day tomorrow from a Mother who is now at the Bluff.

The day did not start well

It was overcast today but it has again turned into a day of looking like diamonds in the rippling water and the dolphins playing about the station again. At the moment I am alone except for the dogs and the only sound breaking the silence is the generator giving power to the light and the houses here. Hubby had to head in the village and pick up mail and a few other things. It is lonely but I do not really feel alone as I have the dogs and know that the phone, aln or vhf radio could break the feeling of being here and there are no other people in the world around you feeling.

That of course is not true there are lots of people but I can see how someone who would live out here with nothing to break the silence, or to speak to could feel that way. Me might just start conservations with the dogs.. (well maybe not).

If this great weather stays we will be able to get the grass cut and the gardens fixed up and new seeds planted. Just had a look out the weather room window and see these large black omminus clouds that could pour rain out them at any moment. Can only hope that this will not happen and the winds will just blow them over the mountains. Just got a call that broke the silence and seems we are getting a chopper in a bit so must run and get stuff ready.. That is all from the Bluff.. hope to chat later

Finally one of those days

Here it is one of those days,,,you know the one where you are glad you live on a lighthouse. The sun shinning on the mountain tops lightly dusted with snow and the roar of the waterfall across the channel. As you watch the seals playing in the wake of the passing ships. Then out of the corner of a eye you see a glint of black diamond flashing on the water and know that the dolphins are out to play.

We noticed a bald eagle sitting on a young tree at the end of the chopper pad today looking out into the water for his meal. Of course the dogs thought that he or she should not be there. Just like the passing floating buses. Well seagull busses is what we call floating logs. The dogs feel that are to close to our solice. And try to keep them at bay.

These are the romantic days the ones where you know that this is the reason you are out here. And become to enjoy the being one with the animals and water. Just the two of us and dogs is so lovely and the silence is only broken by Rupert Radio calling or the sound of the water trickling down our own mountain side. You can know then that this is how the first people coming through Saraha Passage must have felt that long ago time long before we where here. The rush is almost better than one gets with shopping,, and is the only rush that one can get with out drugs I am sure of that. Today is the sort of day I wish everyone in the world could experience even if for just an hour.

What a Year

Well it has been a yr now since I started this. Not sure it is ever read but here we go the start of the second yr. It has been a yr for me for sure. Found my Birth Mom and met her interesting lady and very nice. And we have learned that we are to have a second Grandchild. And the weather here at the Bluff has one that I am sure have never been seen and hope no one will have to still have winter weather in May.

We are here alone the other couple has taken off on two months holidays so I get to work. I will be up now most evenings until 11 pm. Sadly with all this fog and rain it will be hard for the small boats headed to Alaska and the smaller planes flying about. And sadly the rain is not doing the plants any good. But it is still nice to just be hubby and I with the dogs. Not sure how it will be after two months but for now it is what every person feels very romantic. That was how we felt when we first started on the Lights. Now that feeling is one that comes and goes.

What has been great is that hubby got the nice lights that act like the sun for the kitchen and hope to get them for the rest of house. Maybe if they had been around all those yrs. ago Keepers might not have gone into depressions. Just a thought.

I often wonder if anyone has questions or even reads this other than my Family. Well does it really matter in the great scheme of life no not really just nice to know that there are those who might be interested what goes on the last few lights left on the West Coast of Canada. And maybe this will be a something that can help keep us here who knows.. there is so much we can do assist with listening for maydays, and some of us even have weather pages that companies can access from a computer with web cams. They are updated all the time and we have found that there are alot hits each day on them. As well we could assist with alot of things like searching our area or by being used to refuel rescue choppers.. well time to get off my soap box as I know that it is just that not like anyone from the Canadian government reads this.. Ah yes one other thing this yr was the emptying of the composting toilet what a job not one I would recommend it is messy, smelly and make sure that you wear clothing that can be burned or washed alone in very hot water and then run bleach in an empty washer after. Only 4 more yrs and then we will have to do that process again.. lovely (not) Well that is all from the Bluff .
