12 Years

Well we got a great gift.. our grandson was born Oct 30th. What a lovely gift this is one of the few times (there are many) that we would have loved to have been there. Not sure now when we will get off to meet the little guy but hopefully it will be soon

The weather here has been lots of wind and rain the last 2 days. We called heavy today for rain that is not usual for here. The rain yes but heavy no. The usual for here is rain with showers,, in the rain.

Sitting here I am thinking back to when I first flew out to Dryad Point. That was our 25 wedding anniversary and today it is our 37th. It was so exciting and all new to me and hubby back then. We still find the flights exciting to see the lakes, snow and trails. As well in the winter months the mountain tops still look like Toberlone chocolate with a white sprinkle on it. It was supposed to be a few months on the lights and now it is 12ys who knew it would turn into that long. Being married to my hubby life has always been one ride after the other moving with the military and now living on the lights for how long not sure but we are here for now

Take care and have a good one from the Bluff.

Just a lot of thoughts

Well here I sit with morning coffee (yes again) watching the sky open to blue and those clouds that hang on the mountain side slowly roll their way up. At the moment they are past the waterfall. This could be good as I heard a rumour that there may be a chopper coming this way today... humm how nice that would be.

They sent around the furance man and I must say again this yr after he left we had no heat. Of course that seems to be the normal. He also found that our fan was going but did not wish to replace it as he only had one with him. Seems odd to me that when one is coming out this far to fix furnaces that one would not bring more than one fan. Makes me wonder if one is that expensive that having two on hand would cost him to much if they where never used. Maybe that is why they are not brought. Yet I would think that out of some 27 lights with two furnaces per that two fans could easly be used. Oh well we should be glad that they send someone to check them at all.

Got a call early this morning that my best friends daughter is having her baby today. Great news!!! We are hoping to get the same call in the next few weeks as well. Both our granddaugther and our friends daugther's daugther are both so excited to be BIG SISTERS. They are only one yr apart in age and get on so well. Now they can see each others new baby. There are times like awaiting calls for a new grandbaby and being able to be there is one of the negitive thing living out here. Just not be able to pop out for a few days and then back in.

With the chance of a chopper I should really get on the go. So off one runs and hope that I will hear when my friends daugther has had the baby. How exciting for us all as she is like a niece to me as this is the place where I have stayed for the last 14 yrs, when I go off the lights for my vacations. Take care and have a good one from the Bluff

Life out here

So here is life settling in here at the light. Days of wet and windy and then days of not bad weather. Yesterday on the chopper pad with the dogs and there was two eagles flying over head. Very lovely to see one of them made a turn and then dove to the under our dock. Of course setting the two dogs off.

This year we seem to have to humpback whales hanging about. I wonder if they will stay all year some do find places to hang out if the food is there. That would be so lovely to see along with our sea lions.

It is still amazing to live out here and see the wildlife I do at times take for granted but most of time we are still thrilled to see it.

Not much happening here this week,,, a chopper showed up with the furnance man for a bit and than left. Of course as usual we had a problem with the furnace for some strange reason it happens every year. But no doubt he is rushed as well to do all the lighthouses on the Coast in a couple of days. Well off I go to use the water great time to do lots of laundry ho hum but needs to be done.. so all from the Bluff

Weather

Sitting here in the wee office I can hear the roar of the waterfalls from across the channel. There has been so much rain we almost feel quilty watching the tv. There must be at least 6 different waterfalls across the way. Here at the bluff we have our own small. Oh yes we had 4 inches of rain yesterday but seems that we got beat out by Addenbrook light.

While sitting here the weather is changing. One of the many interesting things that we get to see or be part of living out here. You get to see things that most never really see not only the weather but the power of nature in all its glory.

It was mentioned that if anyone is interested in reading lighthouse books that there are some written by Don Graham. There are lots of other books as well but most are USA so to know about our lights here on the coast Don's are good. I believe that there are a few others as well.

Well one should get on with the day we might even get a chopper today if the weather gets better. It is looking like it might so that will mean a few things should arrive along with a mail bag. So bye for now from the Bluff

Life

Life is now settling in to the routine. As all life does. The last few days we have been lucky to have seen a couple of humpbacks and dolphins. And it seems that our 3 sealions are back this winter. They are always great fun and seems to joy the sound of our voices and come closer as well, they tip there heads towards us.

There was on great day of sun and warm but now the fall and winter weather has set in fog, wet, and dull. Yet having the lights that are like sunlight are great in the kitchen and basement. I might look into getting more.

I have been asked again about water, that comes by rain only, groceries and goodies once a month unless we get really lucky and get an extra choppers. Yet with the internet life is much easier than it used to be.

Thinking back to those times long before vhf radio many a wife and children where left for most of the winter will the husband rowed into town to get supplies. That would have been so hard to look after the light and keep the house going and feed the children with what ever you had put away for the winter. The children must have found the time long as well. Their education must have been what ever the Mother knew. Their toys must would have been what ever Father and Mother made for them. I am sure that a stick dolls and wooden toys where big back then. No tv or internet for them. I wonder if their lives would have been less stress. If they got lucky and Father did not row to a village then a passing ship was all they had to rely on for getting mail and groceries in to them. Along with all the bad weather there would have been times when the things they had to drop off would not be. Which must have been hard, so when we in life feel we have it hard one has to just remember that there are those who had it harder out here then we do. But then that is so even to day in our life time.

We are so foggy today that I can not see the waterfall across the channel from my wee office. It is a great place my wee office. I get the see the world of wildlife passing by. Humm Commerical Drive, Broadway, and Robson streets in Vancouver are great have a latte and sit outside and watch the other forum of wildlife pass us by. You can learn alot from both. Well I guess I should head off and get at a few more things here at the house. So bye for now from my wee office here at the Bluff

Home Sweet Home hummmm

So it has been awhile and I am now home. And more or less settled in to the routine of living out here again. It is nice to back in my wee office and to have the dogs and hubby and not necessarly in that order.

Today was a great day clear and warm nice after so many days of rain and overcast. Got a call and soon after a chopper arrived. They where dropping a small workcrew on the mountain top just across from us. So we had company for the day which is always a great pleasure. The pilot even brought mail and what ever packages there where for us.. even better.

As we where all standing on the helio pad today before he lifted off to get the crew we heard the sound of whale. Looked just in time to see a humpback do down for food. Once under they can stay for 1o mins or more but we where lucky and he/she showed up a few mins later further down the channel heading North. He/she was no doubt looking for food. There where even eagles, and seagulls hanging about as well.

With all that great wildlife there was the roar of the waterfall from across the channel that sound is of raw power no something most get to hear every day so we are lucky to have it. Of course there will be times when it will be just normal everday, that is when it is good to take a holiday and come back to appreciate what we have here. Well night from the Bluff.

Back at theBluff

Well as always it was and interersting to fly with the CCG air. I arrived in Port Hardy on the 9th of Oct to be told that the flight on the 10th would not be going. But that is not unusual as there was high winds and lots of rain.

So I planned my next day on that information. Wrong should have learned after all these yrs to expect the unexpected. I had a call at 9:30 am on the 10th saying that I was going to the Bluff. To say the least that was unexpected did not even know there was a chopper in the North. But the pilot was good and gave me time to dress and get ready for the flight. Then drove to the airport and after having to put my own car away in the pouring rain and the swimming pool (ok not really) but could have been, and covered in rust and soaked I got on the chopper.

We delivered groceries to a few stations and then landed at one and hoped that we could carry on but that there would no more stops. It was straight to the Bluff. It was a bumpy ride for me and was feeling a bit ill. So was pleased to hear the pilot say that we would be landing in 10 mins. I know that the pilot I had was one of the best and he did not disappoint landed that chopper here in high winds and got me home and them back to Port Hardy.

No fresh groceries but still it is good to be home here with the roar of the water fall and dogs who have missed me and husband who is pleased that he does not have to eat his own cooking. He is a good cook but still nice to have someone other than the dogs to chat to as they do not really answer back. Well it is time for me to do a few things today and get on with fixing up the house even though he has done a great job. So I shall say bye for today from my wee office here at the Bluff.

Heading back

Well I shall be heading back to my wee office soon. My trip will end Oct 8th is the start I will take the ferry and drive part way and then head out for the second half of the drive 9th and if all goes well will fly home on the 10th of Oct.

It has been a great trip overall and had a nice time with family and friends. Which is what vacations should be and of course along with the shopping. And with the dollar at par or better shopping in the states will be nice in the next while for sure. Hubby made out great with new things needed for the lighthouse and of course the dogs... but then they always make out great those two.

So one more week here in the big city and then my treck home.. so the next time you hear it will from my wee office I am sure after a day or two so I can get settled in and unpacked as well.. bye for now
