Now we know how a frozen cake feels

We have gone from rain to snow to now a deep freeze. BRRRRRRR it is lovely clear and cold. A fireplace is what is needed on days like today. Or a nice warm shopping mall would do it.

Well no such thing out here but we did have an extra chopper yesterday and it was a bit like Christmas. Boxes, boxes, finally arrived. And now I can get my Christmas boxes ready to head out.

The guards com's are still down so who knows when they will get them fixed at least we have our personal phone and of course the computer. But with all the snow it keeps us busy not just keeping them cleared off but the boardwalks, stairs and of course the helicopter pad as well. Not allowed to let that build up. Not a good thing for one to land on pad covered in snow unless they really have to. So it meant on Sat and Sunday the guys where out several times keeping it clear.

It is feeling like the weather I used to just love a child back East in Quebec and Ontario. Those where days when you spend all day building snow castles and sliding down the road across the street from where we lived with my Older Brother. Those where great days. Which children today do not have. We had so much fun doing that and of course snow angels, castles, and sadly sticking our tongues to metal. We sure learned fast not to do that to often.

Times one wishes that we still had that fun and not feel the cold so much as children we and others never really felt it just enjoyed it.

As we get older it really hits us and the warm house or mall looks great. Well off I go to see about the house here and maybe I will go make a snow angel.

No Voices

This week and last we lost all the com's that the guard has in place for us to pass weather in and other things. That means that the Vhf, and the open line where down. I guess it was a good thing that we have our own personal phone along with two other lights on the coast. We where still able to pass on the weather like always and we had our radios working so we where able to hear if anyone needed assistance. It was only part of our North Coast that was like that. We had thunder showers and the lighting hit the top of the mountain where they keep the equipment twice. And with all the bad weather well it took a few days to get fixed.

And of course we had reordered our fresh veggies to come early this week but with the bad weather the chopper did not make it. But must say that they all came in pretty good shape. Unless someone reshopped and did not tell us. Either way it is nice to have fresh fruit and veggies again. Along with a bit of mail which we never turn down.

They are calling for bad weather again on Sunday so it is winter on the coast. It is pretty much one storm after another. Just lately high winds and lots of rain has caused so many problems down south around Vancouver and Vancouver Island as well. They are not used to having power our and lots of mud slides. Well nothing else exciting happening here so will sign off for the night.. have a good one from the Bluff

The Icing is here

So winter is here yesterday we had thunder and noticed snow just like white sugar icing sprinkled on the tops of the mountains around us. As the day when on that icing moved further and further down the sides. Should not have been a surprise for us to wake up to snow here. The crows where acting really nuts yesterday as well and we had been told by an old keeper that crows ( ravens) are a good indicator of weather change.

Along with the strange things the day before I noticed an eagle grab a seagull right of the sky. That was a first. He must have really been hunger I had in the past seen them take seagulls from the water but never right out of the sky. Had been told that when the salmon is not around they will take after seagulls for food. Intereting the more we are out here the more I learn about wildlife and their customs out here. Stuff that you would never see or learn in town.

Later in the day now infact early evening and there are light rain showers so maybe if we are lucky the snow on station will be going by morning. I can only hope that it will be as they are trying to get up to the mountain top across from us as the lighting yesterday it seems hit the guards radio relays and all systems are down so the aln and the vhf is down since then and still down. I know most would like it reapaired because those of us who have real phones are the ones calling in the weather every three hours not that is really a pain but we have to make sure that we are not using out personal phone when it is necessary to give weather. As for the complaints about the line being busy go over my head as it is our phone and we are paying the bills..

Well time for the dogs and their last walk of the evening. To all a good night from the Bluff. More later

Food wonderful Food

Well we finally saw the chopper and our grocery order. And one must say the fresh was wellllll not so fresh after some 13 days. Oh well at least we got stuff and along with the food came the mail, and the lattice sheets we ordered.

As I was waiting for the chopper the other day I noticed a small beige and yellow bird hopping from one branch to another branch up a tree. Once up so far it would change trees.. Very intresting to watch I wondered if he was looking for a dry place to stay. And thought just look below you we have a nice dry three hole bird house below one of the trees it was hopping on. Not only is it dry there is a feeder close at hand. What more could one little bird ask for a dry place to live and a never ending supply of food.

We have heard that there is another storm front coming in nice high winds and all.
So glad that we finally got the groceries and other stuff. It will be another month now the Christmas order will be it, until the New Year. One must make sure that you have all the things you would like to have over that time of the year.

Well the evening is coming quickly and it is getting dark in my little computer room here. Which is really the front hall of the house. Yet it is cosy and the view beyond all in the house. So even if it can get a bit cold and dark.. no matter. Have a great evening all. Enjoy the dark !! More another day from the Bluff

Oh What a Night!!

The wind, rain, and ocean. We are really getting it all tonight love it. It started early this evening there was no rain just the wind whipping up the water like a mixmaster beating up egg whites like meringue except ours where different shades of gray with white tops.

Now we have the rain and there are times the showers intermixed come down so heavy it stops the TV satellite signal. So far the computer has stayed on. It is unusual for us to have large waves in Sarah Passage but so lovely to see. And the wind really causes the trees to bend over almost wondering if they will break off at some point. So far we have been lucky and none have yet in the past we have had breaks none thank heavens on the house just our shed out back and no real damage there.

We had heard that there was a front coming in so now we are wondering how much later our grocery order will be. Nov 2 has come and gone and still no delivery, the chopper had a problem. So the fresh will be no longer fresh by the time we get it now. Hate to think that the bananas might not even be use able for banana bread. Oh well maybe we will get lucky and a few Chinese orange will be ok. But if this front stays all night and into tomorrow we will not see the chopper. But at least today we got the mail out had a small chopper here and they had just enough space and weight to take a small mail bag. Which was great of them as there are times that there is not even room for that on a chopper. Well off to listen to the wind and hear the rain on the windows. Wish we had a fireplace that would make it all the cozier. Oh well another day in the life at the Bluff.

11 Years

Hi yesterday was Halloween so that means that we have been on the lights now 11 yrs. This I know because I was taken out to Dryad Point for our 25 wedding anniversary. It was as lovely last night as it was that first night at Dryad. Clear sky and moon shining on the water like lights of diamonds. Crisp and cool letting you know that winter is coming.

Our last few days have been that great fall weather cool, crip and sunny. The leaves are slowly turning colour and birds coming looking for our feeder. Will have to get that out soon. It was cool enough for a Red Headed Woodpecker the other day.

Have to love it when it is like that out here. Well life goes on out here sadly the house has not learned to clean it's self yet even out here. So off I go more later from the Bluff.
